The Ministère de l’Éducation, Du Loisir et du Sport (MELS) has mandated compulsory examinations at the Cycle 3, Year 2 level in English Language Arts and Mathematics. These examinations are scheduled by the MELS to take place in May/June 2012. The results of these exams will be worth 20% of the students’ final result for the year.
If a student is absent from an exam, the school board must submit evidence to the Director of Sanction des Études which addresses the reason for the absence.
Here are the reasons accepted with proof:
- serious illness or accident confirmed by a medical report or certificate.
- death of a close relative
- court summons
- participation in an important event, for which the coordinator for the certification of studies in general education in the youth sector of the Direction de la sanction des études has given its approval beforehand.
Traditionally, grade 6 examinations may start as early as the middle of April 2012 and end sometime in June 2012. It is important to note that absences for reasons other than those listed above are not acceptable and will result in a grade of zero for the exam.
